Bang Bang

Not all movies are Fiction, some are based on a true story or events. I watched Gangster Squad which was based on true events that happened in California. Back in the 1930's the west coast was run by famous gangster Bugsy Siegel. "Born Benjamin Siegel, on February 28, 1906, in Brooklyn, New York." He was part of the "Bugs-Meyer Gang, which was run by Meyer Lansky and Bugsy. They both contributed a lot to California's dangerous history.

Throughout the movie, the audience was able to see various scenarios of events that would happen in California. Not all were 100% true, but it gave you a idea of what it might be like to live during that time. It shows how corrupt the Police and government was. Many of them would do anything for money and their lives. Gangsters were so wealthy and powerful, that doing them wrong was feared. Gangsters only cared about making it on top, and if it meant killing innocent people, then it would be done.

Gangsters still exist today, but I would refer to them as drug traffickers. These people are still corrupting the system in many different countries, just for power and wealth. The horrible thing about it, is that our government is not something we can trust. It amazes me to see what people are capable of doing for something that can take not only their own life but someone else's.

  1. Are all gangsters drug traffickers? I think this could be a really interesting angle to continue to explore.

When writing a review, you don't have to highlight each scene, but what about one to set the stage? How was the acting? The cinema photography? The directing? Give us more insight into the content of the work on the screen.

  2. If I were not aware of your blog topic, reading just this post made me think that your topic is famous criminals or something similar. Since you started out mentioning how movies are sometimes based on true events, I was hoping you would go more into that. You could have written about how writers and directors take liberties in changing what is supposed to be a “true story.” I then would have recommended you give specific examples of the changes made in the movie. Also when you are using a reference you need to add a citation after the sentence with the quote.

  3. That was an interesting read Catherine. I love movies that are based on true events. Is that what influenced you to watch this movie? I like how you relate the movie to the present. It's crazy how we live in the country which is a democracy, yet there is so much corruption and some of us are too blind to see it. Sometimes I wonder if certain things happen that we see on the news and hear on the radio, or is it all a conspiracy? But it's funny how some people will do anything for power and money. But I guess that's the kind of world we live in.
