Movie 43

My friend and I decided to watch a movie after before going to a friends house. We weren't sure as to what movie to watch, so we looked through the movie app to figure out. Movie 43 had just came out and it was the next movie. We decided to watch it because the trailers made it seem like it would be a funny movie to watch.

The movie started out with Dennis Quaid trying to pitch a movie to a director. He was explaining that the movie would be based on a series of short stories. Already 2 minutes into the movie I was bored. The acting was horrible and thats a shame for Dennis Quaid. He went on explaining his first short story, which was honestly the beginning to disgusting scenes. Kate Winslet, known for her big role in Titanic just scooped down to a mediocre level. The story was about a blind date in which the guy had male parts on his neck. I honestly thought it was the most disgusting thing. It was wasn't really humorous to me. There wasn't many people in the theater and I didn't hear much laughter either.

The movie continued on showing disturbing short stories that really made no sense. They had parents that were home schooling their child. That doesn't sound bad until you saw how they homeschooled the boy. They basically did everything that would happen in high school from parties, first kiss, bullies, to many more things. It was actually disturbing to watch. There were scenes were you saw a lot of body parts that were not normal. There was also scenarios that would never happen in real life. Actually all of them would never happen. I understand that its suppose to be "comedy", but if I feel like I'm forcing myself to laugh, then it is no where close to comedy.

To me, these stories had no backbone. There was no connection in any of the stories. The acting was as well just plain bad. I felt as if I was watching a movie that a pervert made up. I honestly don't understand how some great actors would agree to be in such a bad movie. Most parts were no where close to being funny that I felt awkward myself. Overall, this movie was a no star rating. I would not watch it again or recommend it to anyone.

  1. Hey Catalina,
reading your post about this movie actually tied me in even though you described it being the worst movie ever. I have seen movies so boring they literally put me to sleep. Dennis Quaid and Kate Winslet are great actors/actresses and I also asked myself why do great actors play in boring or terrible movies? I know you blog is suppose to be about the movies that your watching and reflect of what you think, or even the experience of going to the theaters. I thought you can research different reviews about the movies your watching, or how many stars it is rated. Maybe discus why you think one movie has 5 stars vs another that has 1 star. Also reading on critics reviews and how they may compare or differ with your thoughts is another idea that you could incorporate. Your blog is interesting and I am looking forward to the next post.

  2. I find Dennis Quaid and Kate Winslet to be great actors, too. This movie just sounds strange from start to finish. The concept of "shorts vignettes" has been done successfully in the movies before. For example, when? And is gross-out humor ever ok? I mean, it certainly worked in the pool scene in Caddyshack.

Consider adding some analysis here. *Whyt* does gross-out humor work in some movies and not others? What were the directors and actors actually going for? I haven't seen the movie myself, but it does sound avant garde--as if something radial is trying to be attempted. What is that, exactly?
