Bang Bang

Not all movies are Fiction, some are based on a true story or events. I watched Gangster Squad which was based on true events that happened in California. Back in the 1930's the west coast was run by famous gangster Bugsy Siegel. "Born Benjamin Siegel, on February 28, 1906, in Brooklyn, New York." He was part of the "Bugs-Meyer Gang, which was run by Meyer Lansky and Bugsy. They both contributed a lot to California's dangerous history.

Throughout the movie, the audience was able to see various scenarios of events that would happen in California. Not all were 100% true, but it gave you a idea of what it might be like to live during that time. It shows how corrupt the Police and government was. Many of them would do anything for money and their lives. Gangsters were so wealthy and powerful, that doing them wrong was feared. Gangsters only cared about making it on top, and if it meant killing innocent people, then it would be done.

Gangsters still exist today, but I would refer to them as drug traffickers. These people are still corrupting the system in many different countries, just for power and wealth. The horrible thing about it, is that our government is not something we can trust. It amazes me to see what people are capable of doing for something that can take not only their own life but someone else's.

MAMA

One of the most talked about movies on my timeline was "MAMA". The story of two girls that somehow survived in the woods for five years with no one to take care of them. Before the movie came  out in theatre's, I was very excited to watch it. I love scary movies and not many movies have been out that have actually been "scary". For example: "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D", one the most dumbest movies I have ever seen. Trailers are great way of showing the public what you're getting yourself into. They reel you in and make you want to spend your money on a worthless movie. So, you should always make sure you research enough on the movie before spending your precious money on it.

I waited for a couple days after MAMA came out. I wanted some feedback to see if it was worth it. Many of my friends and co-workers told me it was a great movie. The next day I watched with my sister and friend at Potomac Yards in Alexandria. The movie theatre was big and seemed nice , so I was hoping for a good experience. As I walk into the theatre, I was nothing but disappointed. It just boggles my mind when the room has four rows at the top open and four at the bottom. I don't know about everyone else, but I hate sitting in the front and hate being squished next to people. Sitting in the front just hurts my eyes and neck, given you have to be looking up the entire time. Also sitting next to people just honestly bothers me. I don't like to hear people chew, drink, and talk. I didn't pay for that "type" of surround sound. I don't understand why they would squish so many people in to a tiny room and give them limited options. I watched the movie two days after it released, so it wasn't that old.

Once all the trailers were done playing, the lights went down and it was time to watch the movie. You could tell that everyone was nervous and scared as they were getting themselves "comfy" in their chairs. The movie started out interesting, grabbing everyones attention. The one thing i loved about this movie, is that it kept pulling you in, and when you were in good enough "boom" something pops up and you get so scared. It was like a scary mystery you don't want to solve. The two little girls were amazing actors. They were extremely convincing throughout the whole movie. At some point they frightened me and not just MAMA. The whole story was a good concept. I was surprised to see that the people around me were not talking. Im sure they were so frightened that they had nothing to say.

Overall the movie was good. It was worth spending my money on. I wouldn't say I'd watch it again at the movies, but I would watch it again if it came out on redbox. Knowing the producer was Guillermo del Toro, it was bound to be a good movie. He's known for his scary movies like: Julia's eyes and The devils backbone. So If you're a fan of him, this is a great movie to watch.

Movie Theatre Experience

I always loved going to the movies. I know I'm not alone because many people all over the world flock to the movies every weekend. Whether you like action packed thrillers or historical movies, we can all agree that the movie theater experience sets it all aside. It could be the huge screen, the darkness, or the perfect surround system that brings the magic to life.
The first time films were ever shown in theatre's, it was for the ground breaking experience of seeing anything in a larger than life and moving format. People were in awe of the incredible new technology that was quickly spreading. In the past century, the movie going experience has evolved time and time again. What once was silent and black and white, is now 3 dimensional with state of the art graphics and sound.
I want to create an open forum to discuss the experience of going to the movies and why some people love it and some people just wait until its on red-box.
